We had some brief glimpses of summer here in Ireland last week; it may be a little colder (and wetter) this week but we are still really looking forward to summer sunshine and long evenings with barbeques and beaches! Today we are looking at some of our favourite summer wedding ideas to help you make the most of sunny weather on your wedding day.
Adorn your wedding with vibrant and colourful flowers for a really summery, fun feel. Think bright sunflowers, poppies, roses or other blooms in hues of hot pink, rich red, sunny yellow and lime green.
Treat your guests to refreshing cocktails like mojitos, margeritas, daquiries and cosmopolitans – an especially great idea if your wedding venue has an outdoor terrace or garden where you can have your drinks reception. If you and your partner really love your cocktails, try coming up with a personalised cocktail or think of wedding-themed drinks such as a Blushing Bride (champagne, grenadine and peach schnapps) or a Wedding Cake (gin, amaretto, orange and pineapple juice and cream).
If it’s a really sunny day and you’re holding an outdoor ceremony, hand out sunglasses as your wedding favour to protect your guests eyes from the sun during the ceremony – this will also look really great in photographs! You could also have parasols for the girls to protect their faces and shoulders from the sun while they sip their cocktails on the terrace.
Think about what dishes will suit a hot summer day best. A cold starter and a refreshing sorbet will be much more appreciated than a filling warm appetiser or a bowl of steaming soup. Talk to your venue’s chef or caterer to determine what produce is at it’s best during the summer season and make use of this for the best flavours and textures.
Who doesn’t love ice cream? Both kids and adults alike will love a treat from an ice cream van or an ice cream sundae bar where they can select their own flavours and toppings. It’s a great talking point and will keep everyone cool in the hot afternoon sun.
